The catering industry has seen a lot of change and development over the past 30 or so years, from the traditional bricks and mortar hotels we now have a wide variety of options to choose from when we are looking for accommodation for our holidays.

Sites like Airbnb and Booking.com have changed the game when it comes to searching for places to stay. One of the latest forms of accommodation is the serviced apartment. This is a name you may have seen banded around but what exactly is a serviced apartment and how do I know if it is the right option for my stay? Keep reading to find out.

What makes an apartment a serviced apartment?

As mentioned online booking sites have made it easier for us to rent our homes out for extra cash. If you want to offer a serviced apartment there are a few rules that you have to follow. Serviced apartments are completely furnished apartments for both short and long term stay that provide ‘hotel-like’ facilities.

Many times they will also have to be equipped with Wi-Fi, washing machines, tumble dryers and satellite television. They are typically viewed as being a somewhat luxurious type of accommodation so it is essential that you make sure your apartment is well looked after and full of good amenities if you want to label it a ‘serviced apartment’.

When should I consider booking a serviced apartment over other options?

We all go on different types of holidays and this will affect the type of accommodation that we book. If you are trying to keep costs down you may want to go for a cheaper place like a small Airbnb apartment.

The size of the group you are travelling with will also determine where is best for you to stay. This is where serviced apartments come into their own. The amenities help you make sure everyone clothes are cleaned and if you go for a larger serviced apartment you will have plenty of bathrooms and bedrooms to ensure everyone is well looked after.

Make sure you book the right serviced apartment for your stay

Not all serviced apartments were created equal so when you are in the market for one for your holiday make sure you do your research. Find apartments that have plenty of positive online reviews and photos showing you a quality location.
